Curriculum vitae
Elena Tzavara (1977) grew up in Greece and Germany. She studied opera-directing at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and completed her studies with masterclasses with Peter Konwitschny and Sasha Waltz.
Early in her career she presented her productions under the two labels: OFFenbachmusikTHEATER and kalliope.ra group.
As Assistant Director and Production Manager, she worked for the Salzburg Festival 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, the Eastern-Festival 2002 and 2003 in Austria and the Ruhrtriennale-Festival in Germany, with artists including Peter Sellars, Stefan Bachmann, Philipp Stölzl, Nikolaus Lehnhoff etc .
As Assistant Director (Intendant Prof. Dr.Mussbach, 2003-2005) at the Deutsche Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, she worked with artists including Martin Kusej, Barrie Kosky, Michael Thalheimer, Philipp Himmelmann, Robert Wilson etc.
Elena Tzavara received the 2006 German-French Cultural Scholarship, and is a member of the Akademie Musiktheater heute, Deutsche Bank Kulturstiftung 2006-2008.
Starting the season 2009/10, Elena Tzavara became artistic director of the Kinderoper Köln.
